Before and after school supervision arrangements

Student safety at Hawkesdale P12 College is our highest priority, and the safe and appropriate supervision of students is an important element of our duty of care to students. Part of this duty is ensuring parents and students are aware of our student supervision arrangements before and after school.

Hawkesdale P12 College’s grounds are supervised by school staff from 8:40 am until 3:40 pm. Students on school grounds outside these times will not be supervised unless they are required to attend a before or after school program, or are being supervised for an approved extracurricular activity. Parents/carers are requested to ensure that students do not attend school outside of these supervised times unless they are attending a before or after school program, or a pre-arranged supervised activity.

Before school: School grounds are supervised at the bus loop by a staff member every morning from 8:40am until the last bus arrives to drop off students; this staff member is responsible for collecting bus rolls and generally supervising the bus loop area while students disembark and move inside the school building prior to class and form assemblies beginning

After school: School grounds are supervised in two locations at the end of each school day. A teacher with ‘Walkers’ duty assembles students at 3:30pm who are walking home, or who are meeting parents in the car park outside the Stadium, and escorts them to the exit directly next to the Stadium; this duty involves marking the ‘Walkers’ roll, escorting students safely across two bus loop crossings, and passing students over to their families in the car park area. The second afternoon duty involves designated staff delivering afternoon bus rolls to bus drivers, supervising students getting on to buses around the loop, and collecting marked rolls before each bus leaves the loop to deliver students home.
