We know that students learn in different ways and at different rates. At our school, we are proud to be able to offer lots of different supports to help you develop your learning. Small class sizes mean our teachers are able to cater for a wide range of abilities within the classroom. Staff will prepare individual education plans (IEPs) for students who need them. We also have lots of fabulous Education Support Staff who assist specific students with their learning needs to be successful within the classroom and in extra curricular activities.
Sometimes students who have NDIS funding are able to access professional assistance, either with face-to-face visits or online. Mrs Butters and Mrs Dart will organise student support group (SSG) meetings for students who need them to work together to set goals for the best learning outcomes.
Disability Inclusion
In 2025, our school, like all schools in our area, will be transferring to a Disability Inclusion model for funding and support for students with a disability. It will help us make students adjustments and supports to enable them to participate on the same basis as their peers and to reach their full potential.
We will work with families to create a Disability Inclusion Profile. The profile is a written description of the student’s strengths and needs at school. The profile will be completed by a Disability Inclusion Facilitator, with input from key people who understand a student’s education and support needs, including the student, their family and school staff. At our school that facilitator will be Mrs Butters in 2025.
Middle Years Literacy and Numeracy
Middle Years Literacy and Numeracy (MYLNS) is an initiative that supports students in Year 10 who need extra help with literacy and numeracy. Students work one on one or in the classroom depending on the context and what works best for the individual student.
Tutoring
Tutoring is currently being offered to students who need a little extra support, especially after coming out of a few years of remote learning. Students may work one on one or in the classroom or in a small group that is taken out of the general classroom to work with a tutor on their personal learning goals. How this works depends on the context and what works best for the individual student or group of students.
The Base
Our Nurture program is offered by trained staff who have an increased understanding of brain development and the positive influence of a nurturing approach. It is offered at the point of need to groups of students who need some extra assistance to be successful in the classroom. The selected students and staff work together as a team to build trusting relationships and fine-tune their ability to concentrate, focus, develop emotional resilience, and socialise appropriately with their peers. Students focus on building their ability to have success in a busy classroom while also continuing to learn their subject knowledge and skills.
