At our school, we know it is important to expose students to different languages and cultures from around the world. Our Primary and Year 7 and 8 students learn about Chinese language and culture. Chinese is also offered as an elective in Years 9 and 10. We have a sister school, Number 27 Middle School, in Beijing and have previously offered a cultural tour to China. We hope to offer this again into the future.
With a growing number of students who speak English as an additional language, we also seek to celebrate their first languages. For example, in the library we have had displays of books in both English and Tagalog - a language of the Philippines, where many of our students are from.
