• The opportunity to be a published author by publishing your writing in the annual Hawkesdale anthology
• Submitting your creative writing to competitions

English is all about learning about the world through different texts. We read short stories, novels, plays, poetry, non-fiction articles and watch films and learn the reading, writing and speaking skills you will need to be successful after you finish school.

In Humanities, we study the ways in which we have built modern life by examining the past in History, the patterns of the lands and how that connects to humans in Geography and the political systems that underpin every aspect of our lives in Civics and Citizenship. In Hums you will get to learn about interesting topics like Ancient Civilisations (Egypt, Rome, Greece), Medieval Europe and Japan (Samurais), the Industrial Revolution - the evolution of inventions where our modern day technology comes from, WWI and WWII, the natural world and First Nations History. We integrate Humanities with Maths and Science learning - reading graphs and maps, learning about data and using interactive mapping software using spatial technology.
